Jumping horses by Bianca Smith and Edward Waites

Jumping will be the thrilling finale of the Paris Olympic Equestrian events, promising a roller coaster of excitement for both fans and athletes. With origins in military riding and hunting, jumping evolved from a practical skill into a popular sport. By the 19th century, jumping shows had gained widespread appeal, and the discipline was officially included in the Olympic programme starting with the 1912 Stockholm Games.

Though there was a temporary decline in participation after the world wars, jumping surged in popularity, transitioning from a military to a civilian sport. By the mid-20th century, it became a truly inclusive competition, with men and women competing equally.

To honor this vibrant sport and the grace of show jumping horses, we spotlight two talented artists, Bianca Smith and Edward Waites, who have created elegant artworks celebrating the beauty of the discipline.
