Artist of the week - Luci Maclaren

Luci Maclaren

"I have always been a huge fan of polo, having been lucky enough to watch it quite a lot while I lived in LA, and when I returned to the UK, I ended up living near a polo grounds in Warwickshire for a few years before I moved to London. There's something I find absolutely unique about watching a game and I try to transfer that on to canvas when I paint.

There’s a poise and beauty in the horses you don't see anywhere else, a certain anticipation in the atmosphere when the crowd is entranced, a magical grace and elegance in the riders, as well as the undeniable relationship and interaction they have with the horses that carry them…

My aim is always to capture as much of this feeling as I can when I work on a piece in the studio. I use light and movement to try to capture moments like these, and I am driven to express a feeling, an energy that is both natural and raw."
